Ten judging categories, including separate Middle School, High School, and College/Young Adult categories, mean there many opportunities to win!
Awards include prize money for each category, “Deuces” trophies, and awesome opportunities to showcase your work to the public.
Please pass this exciting opportunity on to any young people you know.
This Friday (December 3rd), our Project CHANGE meeting will also double as a “Service & Donation Day”. Along with all of the fun service craft activities that we will be doing, we will also be collecting items for various donation drives at some of our members’ sites. Toys (new) and/or children’s books (new or gently used) – Montgomery College Rockville (City of Rockville)
Canned food – YMCA
Coats/ warm clothes (new or gently used) – Montgomery College Takoma/Silver Spring Refugee Center
Paul will graciously reward each donation with 1extra hour of service!!!
If you have any questions, please contact Jemi, Dre, Sarah, Katherine, Lucy, or Lauren.
This and next month at Montgomery College- Germantown, our Student Senate and a number of clubs are planning to give back to the community in a variety of ways… and would love your help!
Operation Warm-Up
November 15th-19th
The Student Senate is holding a coat and warm clothing drive for the children who benefit from the Linkages to Learning programs through MCPS. These families are in difficult situations, and providing necessary warm clothing often comes second to food and shelter. New or gently used coats are most desired, but hats, gloves, scarves, etc. will all be accepted.
Basket’s Of Hope
Through December 3rd
The Women’s Studies Club will be holding a holiday care package drive to benefit the women of the Betty Ann Krahnke Center- Montgomery County’s only domestic violence shelter for women. They are collecting items such as toiletries, magazines, accessories, seasonal cards, candy, etc. and hope to fill 50 baskets.
“Can-Struction” Canned Food Drive
Through December 16th
The engineering club is building a “Can-Struction” (Google it! It’s really cool!). They will be collecting donated canned foods in order to build their structure, which they will use to advertise for their much larger canned food drive on campus starting on December 6th. You can donate now to contribute to building the structure or later in December to go directly to the drive. All donated food will benefit Manna Food Center and Germantown Help.
If you would like to help with any or all of these efforts please bring items to our Project CHANGE meetings or contact me and we can arrange a pick-up/drop-off.
I found this website that is giving non-profits the opportunity to earn $4,000. Seeing how Project CHANGE is made of non-profits, I thought this might be useful. The link is: http://whatgoodwill4000do.org/. Check it out! The application process doesn’t look too complicated.
I’m the staff adviser for the student service club here at the Montgomery College Takoma Park campus, and they’ve just started running a winter coat drive for the Refugee Center on our campus. Many of the clients at the Refugee Center come from warm climates and cannot afford to buy a new coat to survive our cold Maryland winters.
So, if any of you have an extra coat lying around, we’d really appreciate the donation! We’re taking new and used coats for men, women and children between now and December 9th. If you’re going to the CPR training next Friday, just bring your coat to the meeting, and I’ll make sure it gets to the right place. Thanks for your help!
Montgomery College Takoma Park is in need of volunteers next Saturday, October 23rd, to help out at the Mobile Masterpieces event. Mobile Masterpieces is an annual raffle of donated artwork from local artists, and the proceeds from tickets fund student scholarships at Montgomery College. Volunteers are needed any time between 3 pm and 10:30 pm, but especially between 6 and 9, when we will need runners to get the chosen artworks to the people who win them.

Despite the rain, I loved our adventure at the Smith Center. It gave us all more time to get to know one another by really working together and by having fun! I hope it was worthwhile for you.
Come out and give blood to a great cause (Red Cross) on October 15th and 26th, at Montgomery College- Rockville. There is a prize to be won and food that will need to get eaten!
It was great seeing so many of you at the Meet and Great at my house on Tuesday, August 31. It was a fun way for us to meet each other . . . and learn about each other. I really learned a lot about you when we went over the “Getting to Know You” which many of you completed. I feel confident that you all are going to be a great AmeriCorps group for Paul, Robin and me to work with. Lastly, I look forward to seeing you at our first formal meeting of the year which will be held on Wednesday, September 15, at Montgomery College, Takoma Park.
